The Lyric Children’s Chorus

The Lyric Children’s Chorus strives to provide a high quality music experience for children of Berkshire County ages 6 to 13. The goal is to foster in each child a love of music by training them in the demanding art of choral singing. In order to perform the best music from several centuries in a variety of styles, each child must cultivate self-control, patience, and perseverance in learning their part and how to sing and work with others. We believe that a foundation in music is a discipline that over a lifetime will develop the intellect, shape the character and sustain the spirit.

The Lyric Children’s Chorus is part of the Berkshire Lyric family of choruses, and their support allows it to be the only tuition free professionally led chorus in the region. The chorus performs with the Berkshire Lyric Chorus in several high profile concerts a year, often to enthusiastic capacity audiences. Over the years they have been part of masterworks such as the Bach Mass in b Minor, Faure’s Requiem, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana , Karl Jenkins’ Requiem.  The Chorus also presents its own concerts every year in a wide variety of music ranging from Christmas carols, children’s songs, American folk songs, music from the Broadway stage and new concert music by leading contemporary composers.

The chorus was founded in 1990 with the twin goals of creating a welcoming place for children to learn and perform music, while always striving for excellence. Berkshire Lyric’s Artisitic Director, Jack Brown is assisted by associate director Caroline Fairweather and accompanist Joe Rose to carry on that tradition.

We do not charge any tuition for the choral camp for current members, as it is supported by Berkshire Lyric and the year round fundraising efforts of our families.

What People Say About The Blafield Children’s Chorus

You should all be so proud of what you accomplished this weekend. Watching both the rehearsal and performance of the children filled my heart. It is so hard these days to get kids off their screens to do something special together as they did today.

On behalf of the Richmond Congregational Church Family and our community-at-large, we thank you and the Lyric Children’s Chorus for the gift of music and beautiful voices that brought warmth and blessings to our souls. The Christmas concert was awesome-so uplifting- a treat that brought us round to the gift of Christmas. You will be pleased to know that the free will offering raised $425 that is being sent to Kid’s Place, Berkshire County to benefit traumatized children. We send you our thanks, warm regards and best wishes.

Being part of a group like that at a tender age will change lives for the better- It did so for me. Amen!

Thank you for your continuing support of my daughter. Her confidence is growing bit by bit, and it has all to do with how approach her! Great to see her stand up there and sing!

This chorus has been such a wonderful and constant thing in their lives.  ……mother of two young singers
